THE WEDDING PLANNING TIMELINE
This wedding planning timeline does not give you the time in months because some people have 12 months to plan a wedding, others 12 weeks while others just 12 days.

This wedding planning guide is therefore to help you organize the activities you need to look into as you plan any wedding regardless of how much time you have to help the bride and groom prepare for their big day.
a) Collect The Money
Knowing how much the bride and groom (B and G) have decided to spend on their wedding and honeymoon is important because it helps you set up a budget as well as begin locating wedding service providers within their price range.

In addition, it also helps you set your fee since most wedding planners earn at least 10% of the total wedding budget. Therefore once you know how much they are willing to spend on the wedding, you can then agree on how much you will be paid and when you will be paid. For instance you can ask for an upfront deposit and then agree on when the balance will be paid.

To help the B & G collect the money for their wedding, you can:
1. Advice them to pool their wedding savings into a separate account from their daily expenses
2. Ask them if they want to politely solicit additional funds from their parents and other well wishers.

b) Choose The Guests
Knowing how many guests the B & G want to invite to their wedding is another important number that will help you plan the wedding well. Therefore, find out how many people they are willing to accommodate.

In addition, remind them that financial contributors to their wedding may also want to invite some of their own guests and so they have to take those numbers into consideration. Examples include parents who are footing some of the wedding costs who may want and should be entitled to invite some of their own friends to the wedding.

c) Choose The Venue
After deciding on the size of the guest list, the next step is to choose and book a venue for the wedding ceremony and reception that can cater for that number of guests.

Pick a venue, pay the deposit fees and sign the booking contracts after visiting the venues and ascertaining that they are up to the bride’s and groom’s standards of expectation.
This is also the stage to arrange for the reading of the marriage bans if they have to be read before the B and G get married and also to book the wedding rehearsal dates.
